Descripción del Tour
Just a short two-hour drive from Bogotá, Sumapaz National Park safeguards one of the continent's most remarkable and distinctive ecosystems: the Andean páramos.
Our adventure begins between 6:30 and 7 AM when we pick you up from your accommodation. We will journey straight to the Sumapaz region, ascending to altitudes of approximately 3500 to 4000 meters above sea level.
In the morning, we'll meet our guide in the Usme area, where we will receive essential instructions to ensure a safe and enjoyable exploration of the moorland's breathtaking landscape.
The trekking commences around 10 AM. We will traverse the designated trails within the Sumapaz National Natural Park, covering approximately 178,000 hectares ideal for walking and reflection. This park is one of the high-altitude locations boasting the richest variety of Colombian flora species, many of which are endemic.
We'll hike between 12 to 14 km of trails, encountering a multitude of glacial lagoons. These include Boca Grande lagoon, Chisacá lagoon, Laguna Larga, Laguna La Guitarra, Laguna El Cajón, and Laguna del Nevado.
Our guide will share insights into the indigenous traditions once practiced in the area before colonization. You'll also gain awareness of the environmental challenges this region faces due to mining and resource overexploitation, highlighting the critical importance of preserving the moors for regional and environmental stability.
After hours of marveling at the water sources, navigating through muddy paths, and absorbing the misty landscapes and extraordinary flora, we will relish a delightful lunch amidst what is “the most vital water source in the region.”
As evening approaches, we will head back to Bogotá, concluding the activity with a return to your accommodation around 6 PM.
