Your adventure begins bright and early at one of our designated meeting locations. Choose from two convenient spots to kickstart this exciting full-day journey.
Itinerary Overview:
08:00 AM: Gather at Parque de los Periodistas in La Candelaria, where the tour commences. This is the initial meeting point, where group registration takes place, and our coordinator will brief you on the day's itinerary.
9:00 AM: Collect additional participants at the second meeting spot, Parque de la 93. From this point, we will depart Bogotá heading towards Zipaquirá. The journey takes about an hour and a half, covering approximately 50 km north of the capital. Enjoy the transition from urban landscapes to the serene, authentic charm of nearby villages.
10:45 AM: Arrival in Zipaquirá, a picturesque colonial town established in 1600. It's renowned for the Salt Cathedral and its enchanting architecture, including cobblestone streets, vividly colored houses, and scenic squares.
11:00 AM: Enter the Salt Cathedral, where the exploration of its subterranean tunnels and chapels carved in rock salt begins. The coordinator will facilitate your entrance without lengthy waits and guide you in using the audio guide during your underground experience.
Upon entering the salt mine, you'll be struck by the grandeur of the structure and gain insights into the cathedral's historical and construction narrative. As you proceed, admire the chapels depicting the Stations of the Cross, all intricately carved from rock salt and adorned with breathtaking sculptures.
Eventually, you’ll arrive at the Cathedral’s nave, where intricate details and special lighting amplify the structure’s beauty, creating a mystical and enchanting ambiance. Here, marvel at a large cross etched in the rock and enjoy religious music in a setting of quiet reflection.
1:30 PM: Completion of the Salt Cathedral tour. Spend some leisure time exploring the village and savoring lunch at one of the many local eateries (lunch not included in the tour).
Zipaquirá is celebrated for its culinary offerings, featuring a diverse array of restaurants serving traditional Colombian and regional dishes. Indulge in popular favorites like pea soup, ajiaco, mixed meats, chicken sancocho, and lomo al trapo.
If you opt to stroll through the town, consider visiting the Plaza de los Comuneros, a hub for gatherings and cultural events. Alternatively, explore one of the town’s museums, such as the Archaeological Museum or the Gold Museum, to learn about the region’s history and indigenous culture.
03:00 PM: Reboard the bus for the departure from Zipaquirá. Bid farewell to the town, enriched with energy and awe from the remarkable salt-carved structures.
04:30 PM: Arrival at Parque de la 93 to drop off passengers who embarked here.
