The adventure kicks off bright and early with our rendezvous at the designated locations:
07:00 AM: Departure from Parque de los Periodistas in La Candelaria.
8:00 AM: Gather with the rest of the group at the second location: Parque de la 93. From here, we'll head towards Guatavita.
11:00 AM: Arrival in Guatavita. We'll embark on a hike to the Guatavita Lagoon, nestled in the Chingaza Natural Park. Led by our knowledgeable guide, you'll traverse the trails surrounding the sacred lagoon and delve into the legend of El Dorado and the Muisca culture.
According to lore, the Guatavita Lagoon was the stage for a sacred ritual performed by the Muisca indigenous people, where the chief would be submerged in the water with offerings of gold and emeralds. This ceremony honored the goddess of fertility and abundance, and it was believed that the chief would reemerge purified and blessed by the goddess.
Here, you can connect with nature, experience the wild and mystical páramo climate, and enjoy breathtaking panoramic vistas of the Andes.
02:30 PM: From Guatavita, we'll set out for the city of Zipaquirá. Upon arrival, you'll have free time to enjoy lunch (lunch not included).
04:00 PM: Reach the Zipaquirá Salt Cathedral. Here, you'll discover the history behind this magnificent feat of architecture and mining. Explore the cathedral at your own pace with an audio guide, visiting its various chapels and spaces for meditation and reflection.
You'll gain insights into the region's salt mining history and the construction of the Salt Cathedral.
6:00 PM: Return to the town of Zipaquirá, where you can immerse yourself in the local culture of this charming town, explore its beautiful colonial square, and visit the old train station. Enjoy free time to sip a coffee or shop for souvenirs in the local craft stores.
